What is the truth behind SS Rajamouli¡¯s jinx? Did actors like Jr NTR, Prabhas actually suffer due to this curse?
SS Rajamouli¡¯s jinx has become a huge point of discussion over the years considering how this social media phenomenon allegedly affected the careers of several actors including Jr NTR, and Prabhas. Know all about it.
Filmmaker SS Rajamouli is celebrating his 51st birthday today. The man with his larger-than-life vision has redefined Indian cinema and taken his stories to global space only to win historic accolades. As much as his movies boost the careers of actors, there¡¯s a myth that it has also cursed many artists¡¯ fates in the past. They call it the SS Rajamouli jinx and here¡¯s everything you need to know about it.
What is the origin of the SS Rajamouli jinx?
This assumption first broke into people¡¯s minds in 2001, when Rajamouli¡¯s Student No. 1, a coming-of-age action romance that pushed Jr NTR to stardom released. Unfortunately, NTR's subsequent film, Subbu was underwhelming fueling a conversation around post-Rajamouli jinx. This perception was doubled down again when right after his NTR-led 2003 film Simhadri, the actor gave a flop - Andhrawala (2004).
This same pattern was suffered by other actors as well. Nithiin who starred in Rajamouli¡¯s 2004 hit, Sye saw a flop soon after with Allari Bullodu. Prabhas whose Chatrapathi (2005) became his overnight game changer saw his immediate next Pournami struggle at the box office. While just a coincidence, this became a popular myth that despite seeing success with him, his actors faced a jinx of bad luck soon after.
Is there any reality to the SS Rajamouli jinx?
No, it is absolutely a multi-faceted phenomenon considering it is nearly impossible to beat the success of any SS Rajamouli film because of its grand nature and time invested. Any other projects picked by actors would have to do a lot beyond usual to see success like what they achieved with SS Rajamouli.
And it has happened as well. Nani who starred in Rajamouli's Eega (2012), later saw a commercial hit with Yeto Vellipoyindhi Manasu in the same year proving that SS Rajamouli's jinx is just a shallow narrative and there's no reality in it.
