Why Yulu Bikes Are Proving To Be A Clean Alternative For A Polluted And Jam-Packed Delhi
The environmental condition of Delhi is well known to everyone, with citizens almost daily experiencing the deteriorating condition of capital air.
The environmental condition of Delhi is well known to everyone, with citizens almost daily experiencing the deteriorating condition of capital air. One of the main reasons for the worsening quality of air in the region is the large number of vehicles operating almost daily.
Delhi has almost 10 million vehicles, considered the largest in the country. The travel time in the city increases by almost 20-60% due to traffic.
During traffic hours, travel from residential localities in East Delhi to West Delhi can take more than an hour. The hindrances caused by the traffic on the roads are just one side of the problematic coin, the pollution is the other.
Delhi to this day remains one of the most polluted cities in not only India but also the world.
In the present world where one has to navigate between technology and the environment, Delhi offers the best example of what can happen if we fail to do so.
With the transport and energy sector especially operating without any farsightedness, people across are suffering from the environment unleashing its harmful reaction. In such circumstances, an innovative alternative that balances technology and the environment is essential.
This alternative is available on the Delhi roads in the form of Yulu.
Yulu provides rented two-wheelers for travel within a city. Yulu offers two options to its users: a cycle called ¡®Yulu Move¡¯ and the Yulu Miracle, a two-wheeled electric vehicle that is dockless and powered by its own IoT technology.
Delhi is the first city where it has gone only with the ¡®YuluMiracle¡¯. vehicle off the road for recharge. They use Micro Mobility Vehicles MMVs through a user-friendly mobile app. They provide first and last-mile connectivity that is seamless, shared, and sustainable.
They are a technology-driven mobility platform that enables integrated Urban Mobility across public and private modes of transport. They operate in Delhi, Gurugram, Mumbai, Pune, and Bhubaneshwar. They operate with around 18000 single-seater electric vehicles across 2.5 million users.
According to the company, they have covered 27 million Kms and saved 2.3 billion grams of carbon emission. They plan to increase the number of electric bikes to 100000 by December 2021.
In the environment of petrol and diesel-driven vehicles where carbon emission is constant and increasing with every passing vehicle on the road, Yulu proves to be the best alternative available on the roads, especially in Delhi.
Yulu electric bike also known as Yulu Miracle works on a swappable lithium-ion battery. It is designed for urban traffic conditions and can reach a maximum speed of 25km/h. A single charge can take the e-bike up to 60 kms.
The bikes provide a sustainable solution for vehicular pollution and hectic traffic jams. According to Yulu¡¯s website, ¡°Yulu¡¯s mission is to make urban mobility in India seamless, shareable, and sustainable.
What started off as an initiative to reduce traffic congestion and pollution in Indian cities, is now redefining urban mobility across the country. We are driven by three guiding principles of urban mobility ¨C Accessibility, Availability, and Affordability¡±.
Yulu launched its electric scooters in Delhi in 2019. They started with 40 Yulu zones across nine metro stations on the blue and yellow lines. They launched their services in partnership with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
The customers are supposed to pick and drop the bikes from Yulu Zones only. These services were particularly launched to look after the last or first-mile travel while traveling through the metro.
Traveling from one¡¯s final metro station to the final destination or from the initial point to the metro would be more convenient through Yulu. this would reduce these short distances being covered through buses or autos. Reducing traffic locally and playing soma part in reducing pollution.
These bikes are not just used for such travels, but also for intracity drives, localized or short work-related travels, and even recreational purposes. In any way, the service proves beneficial with regards to more convenient and fewer traffic travels and leads to lesser pollution.
These bikes are available at prominent places in Delhi like CP, Khan Market, Lodhi Garden, Satya Niketan, Dilli Haat, India Gate.
Indiatimes spoke to some of the Delhiites, who use Yulu services
"I used to deliver food by my cycle until I got to know about Yulu. It is accessible and reasonable to me. I have to pay 100 rupees per day for it. I deliver food in Lajpat Nagar, Jangpura, Greater Kailash, CR park, and nearby areas. A lot of my colleagues also use it for the same." - Rajeev (Delivery Executive, Zomato)
"I live in CR park and I have to travel to the metro every day, taking uber or local autos but I prefer Yulu. It is more accessible and falls within my budget. I try to be as environmentally friendly as I can, so Yulu serves that purpose too." - Helly, a student.
"My boyfriend and I go on Yulu dates. We are fond of taking long drives but have recently switched to Yulu. It is more sustainable, saves us money, and helps us get past Delhi traffic." - Zumr, a Delhi resident.
"I used to take an auto from my house for my college, and last year I switched to Yulu. It has been a wonderful experience. It helps me get through the traffic, save some money, and helps cut down carbon emissions. While I wish the customer care was better, I feel it is serving its purpose really well. The body and design are very user-friendly, and it is very easy to ride to. If you know how to ride a bike you can very easily ride the Yulu too. Another great part is I don't need a license or a helmet so I can take it from any Yulu station and go ahead with it. I am enjoying the overall experience." - Himanshi, a student.
"After the pandemic, I lost my job and have recently started delivering food. I did not have any vehicle. I could use so I opted for Yulu. I get my Yulu from the Nehru Enclave metro station and start my day. I deliver food with my bike, get it recharged, or get another one in place. It has really helped me get back on my feet and I would recommend my fellow food delivery people who are using cycles to use Yulu. It is very easy to ride and helps me pass through the traffic. I love that it is accessible and also doesn't take a lot of money." - Suraj Mishra, a Delhi resident.
