Lisa Ray's Never-ending Battle With Cancer Will Change The Way One Looks At Their Own Life
She wants to encourage people to talk openly about disease like cancer
Listening to the word cancer itself affects, doesn't it? But there are role models like Lisa Ray who are living with it and remain positive in life. Cancer is like a lifestyle disease these days and it is very important to discuss it openly because fear kills you more than the disease.
The actress had a tough time with cancer and was away from work for quite a long time. In an interview with Mumbai mirror, she said, "Initial days were the most difficult period of my life. I think I got a lot of support around me and the reason I got support was because I was open about it." The actress, however, finds it disturbing that cancer is treated as taboo in India. She added, "I find that talking about cancer or any other diseases openly is considered taboo. I would like to encourage people not to hide something like that. It is not a curse, it doesn't mean that you are going through bad luck. It's a speed bump, an obstacle and you will find support if you are open and honest about it."
Lisa¡¯s cancer is incurable but she still has a very positive outlook towards life and believes that ¡®cancer¡¯ should not make you feel that death is around the corner. In her interview with The Mirror she also said ¡°With so many heinous crimes happening around the world, Lisa finds 'hate' cancerous to society and would want to uproot it. "I would say that we just need to start being kinder to each other. I would like to uproot hate, cynicism and personal insecurities. Often, when people lash out at other people, when they commit violent acts, it comes from a deep sense of not getting enough love."
Lisa also believes that being branded as ¡®cancer survivor¡¯ has given her life a meaning and purpose and has made her a better person.
