'Ghosts,' 'Zombie Matches,' 'Evil Dead Rise': Survey Reveals People's Dating Nightmares

Dating has become a strenuous affair nowadays. Not only has it become complicated but there are several ways in which dating can quickly turn into a nightmare for many people. While the faces may be different, the ways in which people slowly turn out to have some of the same cringe dating patterns are total red flags.

"India's homegrown dating app, QuackQuack, conducted a survey where daters from all around the country shared their dating nightmares and, more importantly, suggested tips and tricks to easily dodge them. The survey was done for a duration of three days among 10,000 male and female daters from metros and smaller cities. The survey participants ranged between 18 and 32, and the majority of them were working professionals and some students and self-employed professionals."

What are these dating nightmares?

When it comes to dating, there are many different ways in which people have described how they had a proper nightmare with some. But there is a twist. These nightmares have been given some Halloween-level themes and ghost-level names. Here are some:

The ghosts

As the name suggests, this one definitely has to do with one of the most common phenomena in the dating landscape and that is ghosting. "18% of daters from all over India reveal being ghosted and share their stories. Most of them exclaimed that what seemed like a perfect connection turned out to be one-sided, and the ghoul of a match ghosted them without reason or explanation. The lesson they learned and the knowledge they'd like to impart to the newbies is to communicate more clearly and be more honest about your feelings. If you think a date went well, say it out loud so that there are no misunderstandings. If your match does not feel the same way, there will be tell-tale signs of it once you express your emotions about the interaction."

Instead of just stopping contact and ghosting anyone, one can act as an adult and let the other person know where things are going wrong or if they don't feel the need to continue interacting with someone who does not fit well with their vibe.

The evil deadrise

Have you ever had an ex who contacted you out of the blue from literally nowhere after you guys had a bad breakup? Well, that can be known as the evil deadrise. This is when your ex tries entering your life with new promises that obviously would not be fulfilled. "37% of dating app users between 20 and 26 have admitted that they have been on the receiving end of the Evil Dead Rise. If their past relationship was not terrifying enough, the sudden re-entry of the ex succeeds in turning their lives into a real-life horror story and haunts their new relationships."

The zombie match

"31% of female users from Tier 1 and 2 cities have experienced their ex-matches come back. These women told QuackQuack that the same matches had suddenly unmatched them without any reason and, out of nowhere, reappeared, pretending as if none of that happened. There is no explanation as to why they do it, but there is a solution- these women suggest never accepting a zombie match because they might pull the same stunt again. No match is as important as your self-respect and mental peace."

The spine-chilling first dates

First dates can give on butterflies but it can also turn out to be the complete opposite as well. In this case, the first dates turned out to be as bad as one could have imagined. "12% of male daters above 30 from Tier 1 cities relieved their nightmarish dates where their match kept checking their phones, constantly spoke about their exes, brought a friend along to the first IRL meet-up ever, and downright left the date mid-way because they did not like the food. These men also stated that none of these would have happened if they had not rushed into meeting their match and rather taken some time to get to know them well enough. They advised young daters to arrange a virtual meet-up first and then move on to meet in person."

Turns out, there are several ways in which dating can turn all that nightmarish. But the good part about it all is that one can learn from these signs and overcome these mistakes.
