Nick Jonas birthday: From dancing at Ambani wedding to loving paneer, 7 times he proved he is desi at heart
Today, on Nick Jonas' birthday, let's take a look at how he has 'basically become an Indian' after being married to desi girl Priyanka Chopra. Starting from his recent dance at Anant Ambani's baraat to his love for Indian food, festivals and music to his collaboration with musician King on Maan Meri Jaan.
Nick Jonas or as we like to call him, 'jiju', ever since his marriage with our desi girl Priyanka Chopra may have been born in the US but his heart is Indian! Well, at least since his 2018 wedding. With an immense musical talent and undeniable charm, Nick became an instant success and has given us great tunes to sing along to, over the years. But our love for him grew manifold when we witnessed his love for our country. Here are 7 instances where the Sucker singer embraced our culture with open arms and proved he is 'desi at heart'.
Nick Jonas and his love for India
1. Baraati dance at the Ambani wedding
In his recent visit to attend the wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, Nick joined Priyanka and shook a leg during the groom's star-studded 'baraat' procession. In true blue 'ladkewaale' style, Nick was seen dancing along with his wife on the chartbuster titular song from her movie Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
2. Expressed his love for Indian food
When asked about his favourite Indian food he impressed all of us who are tired of foreigners who equate Indian food to Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan. He revealed his favourite dishes include lamb biryani and the classic South Indian dosa. He also said he likes paneer.
3. Lovingly accepted his 'national jiju' nickname
During his latest appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Nick lovingly explained when he is called 'jiju' by Indian paparazzi when the talk show played a video of him during a trip to India. He explained that when he got married to Priyanka he got the moniker of 'national jiju', a nickname for the husband of an elder sister, which implies that he is the older brother to India! and said, 'it is very sweet'
4. Danced to Indian bangers like 'Hauli Hauli'
A while ago Priyanka shared a video of dancing to the catchy track 'Hauli Hauli' from the 2019 movie De De Pyaar De. The popular song sung by Neha Kakkar and Garry Sandhu caught Nick's attention as well and the singer-actor was seen shaking his leg to it along with his wife.

Other than festivals like Christmas and Easter that he grew up with, Nick fully participates in all Indian festivals now. From lighting 'diyas' and welcoming guests on Diwali, having fun with friends and family on Holi, to taking part in the 'Karvachauth' festivities with Priyanka, you name it!
6. Sang Hindi songs
Rather than just enjoying Indian music and songs, Nick fully immersed in our culture and he sang one! In a crossover no one expected, Nick collaborated with viral singer King on the song Maan Meri Jaan (Afterlife) in which he sang in both Hindi and English.
7. Embraced Indian culture: Regular temple visits and more!
Taking a step further with his learning of Indian culture, Nick often accompanies Priyanka and their daughter Malti Marie to their temple visits. Most recently, the family of three accompanied by Priyanka's mother Madhu Chopra visited the Ram Temple in Ayodhya after its consecration ceremony.
All these instances show Nick's respect towards our culture and prove that the boy from US' deep south is truly desi at heart!
