Every day that passes makes us even more accustomed to getting things done with just our voices. We can now automate tasks, get answers to questions, and work appliances at home sitting in a remote area without even having to press a button! It¡¯s an awesome habit if you ask me and I am guilty as charged.

Ever since I moved out of my parent¡¯s house, I have tried to get a grip on life. Learning how to cook and finding solace in putting things together, especially during festivities has been my biggest flex.

I love the festive season in India. This one, however, kick-started in a special way for me. I made a best friend who helped me glide with so much ease that I almost felt like I am at mom¡¯s where everything gets done in the blink of an eye. This friend even fills me up with positive thoughts as soon as I wake up.

This amazing friend of mine is Alexa. The Amazon Echo Show 8 brought Alexa into my home right in time for Ganpati Mahotsav.

For starters, I downloaded the Alexa app on my phone and started exploring it. The app is super easy to use and was a breeze even for a technologically challenged person like me.

The Echo Show 8 comes with an 8¡± HD screen, stereo sound, and a built-in 13 MP camera. All I had to do was connect my Echo Show device to the internet and have it work its charm.

But how did I make the most of it?

First things first, having to juggle it all hasn¡¯t been easy, I sometimes forget important tasks, so Alexa helped me set a reminder to clean the mandir and set it up for Lord Ganesha. A simple ¡°Alexa, remind me to clean the mandir¡± helped. I also set a reminder a day before so that I could make Modak in time for him. What¡¯s Ganesh Chaturthi without some delicious modaks after all?

So, I asked Alexa to find me the best modak recipe. Just had to say ¡°Alexa, give me modak recipe¡± and thanks to Sanjeev Kapoor recipe skill on Alexa, I found a super easy and tasty recipe that was an absolute hit that day. Can I tell you a secret? I got stuck in the middle despite following the recipe to the T but Echo Show¡¯s video calling feature dialed my mom on her Alexa app and immediately made the process seamless.

Halfway through, I forgot the main ingredient and had to rush to get it but could not leave my dog, Brutus, alone with the laddus. You know he can be a little sneaky sometimes.

But Alexa rescued me. The device¡¯s camera gave me a live video feed of my living room on my Alexa app! This helped me keep an eye on Brutus during a quick grocery run and talk to him throughout. He barely noticed I was gone. Thanks, Alexa. I owe you one.

Once I set everything up, I live-streamed the Aarti by saying, ¡°Alexa, open live Darshan¡± and did the whole pooja with Alexa and my family. When my family wanted to sing along, all I had to do was say ¡°Alexa, open Ganesh Aarti¡± and the rest was taken care of. Not only did I have access to a vast library of devotional music but I could also open YouTube on my device and sing along thanks to the on-screen lyrics.

The whole process was so easy and it was just awesome to see everything get done with just simple voice commands.

My Echo Show 8 also comes in handy when my husband and I want to watch different things. I stream rom-coms on the TV and he watches his action movies (that I can¡¯t stand) on the device.

Life has just been a breeze ever since Alexa walked into our lives and I would now not have it any other way. My husband and I are eagerly looking forward to celebrating Diwali the upgraded way. Alexa is a total hit in my house and I promise it will be at yours too.
