Social Media's 'Manifesting' Craze Explained: Here's What You Need To Know
Have you been seeing a lot of manifesting trends on social media? Here is why this trend is making people believe in it now:
The internet is full of new trends, words, and actions that give a name or importance to even the most mundane things we never even gave two thoughts to. Thanks to social media in particular, a lot of things, including old music, movies, and even people, are receiving the kind of attention that completely changes the way the entire world sees them.
We have started noticing or doing stuff that we may have shrugged off or rather laughed at previously, but now it's super relevant.
Speaking of relevance, any person who has even a passing liking for reading or keeps track of what books people do read would have definitely heard of "The Secret" by author Rhonda Byrne, which was published in 2006. Now, this book, in particular, has been recommended by many, and probably the lessons in it have been followed by many as well.
The main takeaway from this book was that if you have enough positivity in you and think positive thoughts, all of that will happen to you as well. Simple, right? Well, I can assure you that it isn't for many, considering the raging cynicism and negativity most of us walk around with. And why not? Life isn't all flowery after all.
However, almost two decades later, a phenomenon took over the "books" of social media portals like TikTok and Instagram, and it is called manifesting. As per the Cambridge Dictionary, the term "manifesting" means "to show something clearly, through signs or actions."
However, teenagers are now using this technique of positive thinking to achieve or desire any goal or desire they have. Not only teenagers, but coaches are available on all of these internet portals to help users understand how to manifest properly. Whether it's money, fame, or love, several accounts constantly tell us that we can have it all through the power of positive reinforcement.
This term got especially popular last year when Google searches for the term skyrocketed 669 percent; "shut up, I¡¯m manifesting" was among the defining memes of 2020.
So, what is manifesting based on what social media says?
Manifesting has been practised in many traditions and cultures long before it became the "woke" thing. Now, as per social media, many posts and videos mention that simply by coming across them, you have subconsciously manifested the video. Some people mention some positive and general affirmations that, if one affirms them, will definitely come true.
Some tips indicated by social media for manifesting well are:
Clarity on what you actually want to manifest
This usually means that you need to sit down and think clearly about what you want. If you are unclear about your desires, then manifestation is bound to work.
Journaling your desires
Journaling has literally been the most important form of therapy. Ask any therapist. But here, instead of writing about your day or those dark thoughts, Write the good things you want in your life.
Visualizing that your desires are already fulfilled
Yep, until you actually believe you've achieved your best desires, how do you expect them to come true anyway? So whatever you want in the future, visualise it already happening to you in the present.
Always be thankful
While you are manifesting for more, don't forget about what you already have. Showing gratitude for the small or big things in life is supposedly the key to better manifestation.
What manifestation techniques are popular on social media?
Now that you know some tips and tricks, as well as what manifestation is, there are some manifestation methods that have become popular on TikTok and Instagram, promising to fulfil your desires.
The 369 method
The numbers 369 apparently hold a very special meaning, and even though this method is being used differently by different people, many have been doing it. While some videos indicated that manifestation should be repeated every day at 3 AM, 6 AM, and 9 PM, there are other ways too.
A video on YouTube indicated that the easy way to do it is to write down three times what you want. Then six times as to what happened, and after that, nine times as to how you are feeling. This routine appears to be effective.
555 Method
This method essentially discusses how to align with your desires. This method is extremely simple. As per this manifestation trend, you have to write what you want 55 times in the present tense over a period of five days. This is what it generally is, and yes, positive thoughts.
The 10/10/10 method
This one is basically an exercise to get anyone into a good mood. This is something therapists add to the curriculum too, if you've ever tried it. This is basically divided into a list of three.
The first is basically where you write your 10 desires. It could range from finding love to getting that dream job. Next is a list of 10 things you are grateful for. This could be anything from your parents to your pet. The final step is to write down ten things you enjoy doing. These could be hobbies or just small, mundane things you like. This one basically puts one in a good mood.
