'Pick a manager who speaks fully in English': US-based Indian-origin man says candidates should avoid 'language-mixer' managers

A US-based CEO, has doled out some advice on how to pick the right job and ensure you work under a good manager.

Because, let's be honest, your manager can turn your life into either heaven or hell.

However, the advice he has shared isn't sitting well with a lot of people.

An Indian-origin professional working in the US shared his job advice on X (formerly Twitter): "A lot of Indian friends are entering the job market, switching jobs, among other things. The biggest advice I have to avoid bad managers and companies is: pick a manager who speaks fully in English."

He detailed the exact steps for doing this: "During interviews, pay attention to how your future boss is talking. If you notice one Hindi word or Hindi sentence (frequently to other colleagues), politely decline the job after the call. It will not be worth it."

He suggests staying away from managers he defines as "language-mixers": "If a manager doesn't know English and only knows Hindi / Regional languages, that's totally fine. But if you get a language mixer, your life will be terrible and you will regret your decision."

Naturally, this advice didn't sit well with many, who criticised the sweeping generalisations.

One commenter hit back, "It really shows that you're disconnected from the bottom 90% of society."

Another quipped, "Most terrific advice I saw on internet , lol. Language has nothing to do with how the person behaves."

Someone shared a personal experience: "I have seen punjabi with english accent to be t*xic while I had couple of Telugu speaking managers who were some of the intelligent and empathetic people I worked with,¡± stating that ¡°Language has nothing to do with managerial skills."

Others pointed out, "Bhai, mixing language is a normal trait for non-native English speakers ie 90%+ Indians."

As one more user put it, "Wow, just generalized so many people."

Yet another wrote that their attitude is great despite speaking 4-5 language everyday.
