The job market currently does not look the brightest. With even IIMs struggling to get their students placed even for internships - case in point being the recent IIM Bangalore placement slowdown - it seems like 2024 is going to be a tough year for those who are looking for jobs.
But on the brighter side, there are some sectors which are looking to hire more in 2024.
Students need to be on the lookout for job availabilities in these sectors.
Which sector has been hit the most?
The sector most hit is the IT sector which is witnessing a major slowdown.
Domestic rating agency ICRA said that companies in the IT sector are expected to keep employee addition at "low levels" in the near term. A major reason behind this is slowdown in the US tech sector's hiring, which has hit the opportunities for Indian IT and IT-enabled services.
Which are the sectors that are looking to hire more in 2024?
These are the industries and companies that are ramping up hiring in 2024:
1. Manufacturing companies
An ET report states that manufacturing companies are planning to hire 15-30 per cent more graduates from the 2024 batch than they did from the 2023 batch.
This comes at a time when the manufacturing companies are looking to expand their operations and meet the growing demand for their products.
This includes firms such as Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Larsen & Toubro, JSW Group, Dabur, Vedanta, Schneider, and RPG.
2. Titan company
Mint reported that the Titan Company is planning to hire more than 3,000 employees as it aims to become a ?1 lakh crore business in the next 5 years.
The hiring will be across sectors such as engineering, design, luxury, digital, data analytics, marketing and sales.
Titan said that it it is expected to contribute to 15-18% of the total hiring every year.
3. Global capacity centres (GCCs) of transnational companies
The global capacity centres (GCCs) of transnational companies in India are set to hire around five lakh people in India this fiscal year (FY).
The hiring will take place across sectors such as automotives; banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI); energy; pharmaceuticals; retail; telecom.
