Recently, the hand-written study schedule of an IIT JEE aspirant went viral on social media. Many described it as a tough routine essential for exam success. Now, Kalpit Veerwal, who scored full marks in the first part of the entrance test (JEE Main) in 2017, has responded to the post, revealing that he didn't study nearly as much but still achieved "literally" perfect scores.
Rigorous study schedule will lead to burnout, says topper
The snapshot of the demanding study schedule belonging to a 17-year-old was circulated on X.
The schedule required the teenager to wake up at 4:30 am daily after sleeping at midnight, allowing only 4.5 hours of sleep. The entire day was dedicated to reviewing old chapters, attending classes, and completing classwork, leaving little time for leisure or other activities.
Despite the heavy workload, the aspirant allowed themselves only a brief 15-minute nap before continuing with classwork at noon. Lunch was a quick affair with just a 20-minute break, followed by three more hours of studying, interrupted by a 30-minute nap. From 4 pm to 8:30 pm, the teenager attended classes, squeezing in a 30-minute session for notes. Even after dinner, studies continued until 11:45 pm.
While hard work is essential, Kalpit Veerwal, who achieved full marks in the JEE Main 2017 (AIR 1), posted on X, expressing concern that such a schedule could lead to burnout.
He stated, "I literally scored full marks in JEE Main 2017 (AIR 1) and didn't study half as much. Students who study this much usually end up burnt out, skill issues."
In a subsequent post, Mr. Veerwal mentioned that he chose to remain in his hometown despite offers from Kota coaching centers and made time for hobbies while studying for more than eight hours a day.
Thinly veiled arrogance, say netizens
However, the Internet perceived his response as displaying arrogance.
One individual commented, ¡°Bhai sbka caliber ek jaisa nhi hota hai.¡±
Another remarked, ¡°AIR 1 and all good for you, lad ! However, undermining someone else¡¯s hard work to cope up in a shorter duration (starting preparations in 11th) while brushing off your privilege of doing so pretty early (starting preparations in 8th) and calling that a ¡®skill issue¡¯ shows how condescending you are! Stop being so arrogant for a change!¡±
Yet another user stated, ¡°This is nothing but thinly veiled pomposity. Tbh, it was expected from someone who is proud of getting a perfect score in a competitive exam.¡±
Another added, ¡°Yeah, demeaning some hardworking kid who's doing his best. Says a lot about how well you are doing in life to take pleasure in demeaning a kid on internet. Great going Mr. AIR 1.¡±
