Parveenabanu N (26) was pregnant with her third child when she was travelling from Anand Nagar to Government Hospital -- a distance of three km -- in an auto for a check-up. The bumpy road was too much for her and she ended up giving birth to a baby girl at 11.45 am.
Parveenabanu had no labour pain in the morning. But during the auto ride -- the road has not been asphalted in four years -- she experienced severe labour pain. baby's head popped out and both Parveenabanu and her mother were worried about the health of the child.

The condition of Parveenabanu was so grave that the driver stopped the auto midway and parked it in an isolated place hoping to find a doctor nearby. The auto was stopped at Gurunathnagar but the nearest hospital was at least one-and-a-half kilometres away. With no respite, Paveenabanu's mother decided to play midwife.
With the help of two other women, Parveenabanu wrapped a saree around the auto to prevent people from peeking in. The child's head had already popped out, and the remaining body was pushed out with the umbilical cord still connected to mother and child.

In that tender state, Parveenabanu was taken to the hospital, and just as she reached, the baby was already out. The maternity hospital staff came rushing to the auto and did their best to free the child and the mother.
Fortunately, both the child and mother and are recovering. "I can never forget this day. I was so scared when the child's head had popped out, I thought she would die or something bad would happen to me. But by god's grace, everything panned out well," says Parveenabanu.
