Aaftab Poonawala, the accused in the sensational murder of his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar had initially planned to dispose of her chopped body parts in Himachal Pradesh.
The Delhi Police, which investigated the case, filed a charge sheet totalling 6,636 pages on Tuesday.
Planned to dump the pieces in Himachal
Poonawala, who killed his live-in partner Walkar in May 2022, then chopped her body into several pieces and stored them in a refrigerator.
He then disposed of the body parts in the Chhatarpur forest near his house over three weeks.
But according to the charge sheet, Poonawala had initially planned to dispose of the chopped body parts in Himachal Pradesh.
The accused had bought a large black bag worth Rs 1,200 and even contacted some cabbies to take him to the hill state. However, he cancelled the plan later over fears of getting caught on the way, The Times of India reported.
Killed Walkar after she met a friend
The charge sheet said that the accused used different kinds of weapons to chop Walkar's body.
According to the police, Poonawala killed Walkar as he was angry after she met another friend on the day of the incident.
"On the day of the incident, Walkar had gone to meet another friend, which Poonawala did not like. After which he became violent and the incident happened," Joint Commissioner of Police (south) Meenu Chaudhary said.
After strangling her to death, Poonawala chopped the body into small pieces and bought a new refrigerator the next day to preserve them.
Doctors in AIIMS Delhi found 'extremely thin lines' at the corners of the studied bones, suggesting that her body was chopped with a saw-like sharp object, the police had said earlier.
Kept Walkar alive on social media
The chargesheet also said that after the murder, Poonawala kept Walkar 'alive' by continuing to use her mobile phone and social media accounts.
How the crime came to light
A police investigation into the incident started only in October after her father, Vikas Walkar, approached the Mumbai Police, saying his daughter's friend came to him and said that she was not reachable for some time.
Initially, Poonawala had told the police that walker had left him in May and since then, he was unaware of her whereabouts.
Later on November 10, another FIR was registered at Mehrauli police station and Poonawala was detained for interrogation.
During the interrogation, Poonawala initially repeated his claims, but after he was confronted with inconsistencies in his statement and other evidence, he revealed all the horrific details of the murder.
