On July 3, Andheri railway bridge collapse exposed the poor maintenance of railway footbridges in Mumbai. It injured a woman severely, who later died in the hospital. Within a week, another bridge in Ghatkopar station had to be closed after cracks were found.
A day after the Andheri bridge collapse, the bridge on Grant Road was closed after cracks were noticed. It was opened later after inspection.
"This bridge is 40-50 years old and the condition of the bridge has been like this for the last four to five years," residents in Ghatkopar told NDTV.

After complaints of the poor condition of the bridge- the Ghatkopar east-west bridge was closed for vehicles since last night and auditors are set to visit it, the sources told NDTV.
Most local trains and a number of long route ones of the Central railways pass under the bridge at Ghatkopar and a letter dated July 7, the Central Railways has told Mumbai civic authorities that bridge is in bad condition and need urgent repair work. All water pipelines, phone and power lines and temporary shelters need to be shifted to do the repair work.
As heavy rains have exposed the city and its poor infrastructure, massive waterlogging have been seen in Sion. Ghatkopar, Colaba, Santa Cruz, Jogeshwari, Borivali and Goregaon. The Indian Meteorological Department had warned of heavy rains in Mumbai and the entire state of Maharashtra till Wednesday.
