Amid Covid-19 Lockdown, Ex-Karnataka CM's Son Gets Married With Over 70 Guests In Attendance
While India is under lockdown until at least May 3, it isn't stopping politicians from organising ceremonies and gatherings in different states with many people in attendance.
In a latest act of politician having no qualms about breaking lockdown orders, former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy went ahead with his son's wedding which saw around 60-70 people attending the function, according to various reports.
In a luxurious wedding outside Bengaluru in Ramanagara, HD Kumaraswamy son Nikhil Kumaraswamy¡¯s wedding was conducted at a farm house. The media was banned from entering the Ramanagara district while around 30-40 cars were seen headed towards the location from Bengaluru.
It might have no been a big, fat wedding by any standards, but there seemed no respect for social distancing, as everyone stood close together.
Despite the lockdown and virus warnings, Kumaraswamy refused to defer the wedding. In a video on Thursday, the Janata Dal Secular leader said the event had been moved from Bengaluru, a "red zone" for COVID-19, to Ramanagara, his assembly constituency, and asked his supporters to stay away.
"I request my well-wishers with folded hands with pain and apologies. At a later date, when these problems are solved, we will have a big reception and invite you all," he said.
Nevertheless, with close to 70 people in attendance, there was no intention follow lockdown norms.
While Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan has said action would be taken against the former chief minister "without a second thought" if guidelines were not followed in the wedding, the more pressing question would be why was the permission given in the first place?
The whole episode has not gone down well with Netizens, as they wonder how lockdown rules went for a toss.
