In a viral video, a man can be seen doing sit-ups while holding his ears with a crowd comprising a dozen men and women witnessing the act.
Elders decided it was not rape
The man purportedly took the five-year-old girl to a secluded poultry farm on the pretext of buying her chocolates but instead, he raped her.
As per reports, the police have said that the minor girl's family reached out to the family of the accused fearing public shame and humiliation. They protested the act and eventually took the matter to the panchayat.
At the panchayat gathering, the village elders, after listening to both sides, decided not to hand over the accused to the police and pronounced their verdict. It was agreed there that the man was not guilty of rape and was only handed the punishment for taking the girl to a secluded spot.
Case registered by police
"The family members of the minor were told not to register a police complaint against the accused and settle the matter by panchayat, as registering FIR will bring bad name to their families.," a family member was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Nawada SP Dr Gaurav Mangla informed that a case has been registered against the accused, and the incident will be investigated in detail. On the other hand, the SHO of Akbarpur police station, Ajay Kumar, said that the girl's father has accused the man of holding his daughter in his lap and touching her in an inapt way.
