Chennai's Loyola College Has Opened Its Doors To Transgender Students
Mirthulla a Bachelor in Multimedia BMM student of and Diya a student of BA French have become the first transgenders to be given admission in nearly a century-old Loyola College in Chennai. The college authorities have also assured to provide them a scholarship to help them fulfill their dream.
Mirthulla, a Bachelor in Multimedia (BMM) student of and Diya a student of BA French have become the first transgenders to be given admission in nearly a century-old Loyola College in Chennai.
Like most members of their community, both Mirthulla and Diya had to go through the stigma and rejections from multiple colleges while they attempted to pursue their dreams.

Diya had completed her schooling in 2013 could not make it to college because none of them were willing to have a transgender student.
According to the Loyola College authorities, both Diya and Mirthulla have been given admissions based on merit.

¡°The two students have been given admission on the basis of their merit. Both are on par with other students and they deserve to study in our college,¡± said Justin Prabhu, an official of Loyola College.
The college authorities have also assured to provide them a scholarship to help them fulfill their dream.
Diya who has enrolled for BA French said she wanted to study the language and explore the world of opportunities, while Mirthulla says she wants to become a journalist one day and highlight the plight of the transgender community.
