Dispute Over Dog Ownership Resolved After Four Months With DNA Test In Madhya Pradesh

A four-month tussle over a three-year-old black Labrador in MP¡¯s Hoshangabad district has been settled after a DNA test proved that a journalist was the rightful owner of the dog. Police handed over Coco the dog to Shadab Khan on Friday, a day after receiving the DNA test results.
Dog coco has been missing since August
The case came to light on November 18 when Khan, who works with a regional media house, filed a complaint at the Dehat police station stating that Coco, which had been missing since August, had been wrongly detained by one Krutik Shivhare, allegedly a local ABVP leader.
A constable was sent to Shivhare's address and the dog was handed over to Khan as he produced a purchase certificate along with vaccination records. The very next day, Shivhare appeared in the police station and claimed that he purchased the dog from Itarasi in August 2020 and has named him "Tiger".
On the other hand, Khan claimed that Coco, that went missing in August 2020, had been detained by Shivhare. Khan asked for the DNA test in order to get this matter solved and also paid Rs. 30,000 for the test.
DNA test prove Shabad's claim
On Friday, Inspector Anoop Singh Nagjnain, the in-charge of Dehat police station, said, ¡°We received the reports yesterday which were as per Shadab¡¯s claim and subsequently the dog was handed over to him¡¡±.
The samples for the DNA test was sent in December 2020 and the test was conducted in Hyderabad, Telangana. The reports arrived on Thursday (March 18) and made it clear that the dog belongs to the Shadab Khan. The police handed over Coco to Shadab Khan.
