In a shocking incident, a three-day-old baby was mauled to death by a dog late last night after it took him away from next to his sleeping mother and other relatives at a private hospital in Panipat, Haryana.
The family members found the mutilated body of the infant from outside the hospital when the stray dog was hacking the infant.
Reports said that Shabnam, wife of Aas Mohammad of Furgan village of Kairana in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, admitted his wife to the hospital for delivery on June 25.
After Shabnam delivered the baby boy, she was admitted to the general ward on the first floor of the hospital. Shabnam and her baby were sleeping on the bed while others were on the floor.
Reportedly, after feeding the boy the grandmother had also slept on the floor, and when she woke up in the wee hours found the baby missing.
As the family started searching for the baby, they found a dog mauling the baby outside the hospital building.
They immediately rescued the child from the dog¡¯s mouth and took him to a doctor. But the doctors declared him dead.
The incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital, in which the stray dog was seen moving with a child in its mouth.
The incident happened in a private hospital ¡®Heart and Mother Care Hospital¡¯ at around 2 am.
Following the incident, Sector 13/17 police reached the hospital and sent the body of the infant to the mortuary for post-mortem.
Inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO, Sector 13/17 told The Tribune that an inquest proceeding under Section 174 of the CrPC has been initiated into the matter and the body of the infant has been handed over to the kin after post-mortem examination.
