Driverless Pod Taxis Will Connect Noida's Jewar Airport With Greater Noida: Know All About It
The estimated cost of the pod taxi project is an estimated Rs 50-60 crore per kilometer, which will bring the total cost to an estimated Rs 1,250-1,500 crore.
The Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath is all set to introduce pod taxis to the people of the state as the taxi will be connecting commuters from Greater Noida to the Noida International Airport located in Jewar.
Pod taxis are a popular driverless mode of transport in many western countries and can accommodate four to six people per car at a time. To extend the connectivity to remote areas, the Yamuna Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway will soon be signing an agreement with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Rs 1,250-1,500 crore estimated cost
"We already have Metro connectivity till Greater Noida but Jewar is about 25 kilometers from Greater Noida city. To bridge this gap, pod taxis are being considered. Pod taxis are a revolutionary mode of transport widely being used in many western countries," said Dhirendra Singh, BJP MLA from Jewar in Greater Noida.
According to the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the pod taxi service connecting Greater Noida and Jewar International Airport will be developed by the DMRC and a detailed project report (DPR) on the same will be presented soon. The estimated cost of the pod taxi project is an estimated Rs 50-60 crore per kilometer, which will bring the total cost to an estimated Rs 1,250-1,500 crore.
Aimed at reducing travel time
"The upcoming airport is easily approachable through road from Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and a large area of Uttar Pradesh. To help reduce travel time, we are working on pod taxis that will give a hassle-free travel experience to the commuters. Also, as the Film City will be developed in Jewar area, the pod taxi service will be of great help in connectivity," said YEIDA CEO Arun Veer Singh.
