On May 1, the Gujarat forest department shut down the Gir lion sanctuary indefinitely.
¡°We have already carried out a surveillance operation and have ensured that the staff was checked for Covid," said DT Vasavada, chief conservator of forests, Junagadh.
¡°In the past too when corona was at its peak, similar drives were taken up," Vasavada added.
"We are regularly monitoring the health of the lions and other animals in the sanctuary,¡± Vasavada went on to say.
All tourist attractions in the state are closed until further notice in light of the recent surge of COVID cases.
