The lynch mob in the country is becoming fearless with each passing day. After recent reports of people being lynched on suspicion of being a child kidnapper, another such incident has surfaced from West Bengal.
Four women were allegedly assaulted and two of them disrobed by a mob in West Bengal Jalpaiguri district on suspicion of being a child lifter.
The incident took place at Dawkimari village in Dhupguri block and is the fourth one this month so far in the district in which people were attacked over suspicion of being child-lifters.
In another incident which occurred last week, a mentally-disabled woman was beaten up in the same block of the district.
The four women, aged between 20 to 40 were not from the area.
One woman had reportedly said she was looking for a relative, another said she was visiting a relative, while the third woman said she sold clothes door-to-door and the fourth one said she had come to a neighbourhood bank, the police told PTI.
The mob suspected them to be child kidnappers. The men assaulted the women and even disrobed two.
The police rescued the two women and they were taken to a primary health care centre. The doctors said that their condition was stable.
The government has taken initiatives to create awareness on this through social media and public announcements. However, despite all this, locals have been taking law in their hands rather than contacting the police.
