From 'Thain Thain' Encounter To Poop Rain, 8 Bizarre Things That Exclusively Belong To India

In a highly bizarre move, the Uttar Pradesh Police has recommended SI Manoj Kumar for a reward for shouting ¡®Thain Thain¡¯ to such perfection that it did sound like actual gunshots to criminals after police¡¯s weapons got jammed during an encounter.

While the move is inconsequential to many, the story deemed as the great presence of mind on the cop¡¯s part certainly requires audacity which usually remains absent in most cases handled by the department.

But this is not for the first time, the bizarre things have got precedence and at times the state¡¯s patronage as well. Here are some of the bizarre things that have happened in recent times.

1. Gurgaon residents storing poop fallen from aeroplanes

In January 2018, a bizarre news came that the residents of a Gurgaon village stored the human excreta fallen from the aeroplanes flying over the village by mistakenly as ¡®celestial gift¡¯. The villagers stored it in the fridge. Rajbir Yadav, a farmer at Fazilpur Badli village, was out for his morning ritual to the fields on Saturday, when he saw what appeared like a "very large rock" crash near him and disintegrate "It hit the ground with a big thud," he later recalled.

2. Mangoes guaranteeing the male child

India¡¯s obsession with the male child is well known and people got any extent to get a male child. Taking advantage of people¡¯s disbelief and quest for the male child, Shambhaji Bhide an activist in Maharashtra claimed that eating Mangoes from his orchard can get families a son.

Later, the municipal body of Nashik sent Sambahji Bhide, a show cause notice to name the people who he claimed got blessed with a male child after eating mangoes from his farm. Read More

3. 'Organise beauty contests in the paddy field'

Goa Agriculture minister Vijai Sardesai is known for making absurd comments and one came recently when he said that the beauty contests should be held paddy field as it would attract youth towards farming.

"Today agriculture does not appeal the young generation. They feel that it is a profession of the old people. The need of the hour is to incentivise agriculture," he said.

Stressing his point, the minister said: "If you want, you can even host beauty contests in paddy fields. Let the youth come. You can do that. Do everything possible to get the young generation to the fields". Read More

4. Gujarat govt official claims he¡¯s avatar of Lord Vishnu

In May this year, a Gujarat government official refused to come to the officer as he claimed himself to be the tenth incarnation of Lord Vishnu-Lord Kalki and cited it as the reason for not coming to the officer as he conducting ¡°penance¡± to ¡°change the global conscience¡±. Rameshchandra Fefar also claimed that the country received good rainfall due to his penance.

In July last year, a couple in Uttar Pradesh called off their wedding because they had different opinions on PM Modi and his policies. Everything was smooth between the two as they were knowing each other, but the discussion about PM Modi and economic slowdown due to demonetisation turned into a heated debate between the two and eventually decided to call off the wedding.

6. Bihar teachers stop open defecation

In November last year, the education department in Bihar issued an order asking teachers to keep watch on those who defecate in open in their respective areas.

Apart from educating the people in their respective areas about hazards of open defecation and benefits of having a toilet at home which makes sense, the department ordered the teachers to click pictures of those who defecate in open between 5 am to 7 am and 4 pm to 6 pm.

7. No jeans for teachers in school

In 2016, the BJP ruled Haryana issued an order, barring the school teachers from wearing jeans at work. The order was issued to elementary and middle and middle school teachers. Though the reasons for the order weren¡¯t cited, the teachers, however, were asked to dress ¡®appropriately¡¯.

¡°Besides banning jeans, we will ensure they do not come in flashy clothes, such as a red-shirt or a loud printed one. Also, all the shirt buttons should be fastened,¡± he said. 8. Females mandated to tie rakhis to male colleagues

In August 2017, the Centre ruled Daman and Diu asked its female employees to tie rakhi to their male colleagues which sounds quite bizarre. The government circular officially asked the employees to become brother-sister.

The diktat that has been signed by Deputy Secretary (Pers.) Gurpreet Singh read and quoted by The Asian Age: ¡°It has been decided to celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan on 7th August 2017. In this connection, all officers/departments shall remain open and celebrate the festival collectively at a suitable wherein all the lady staff shall tie rakhis to their male colleagues."
