From Nov 8, Fully Vaccinated Indians Can Travel To US, But Only For Covishield Recipients
Foreign nationals who have received vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use, as well as those authorized by the WHO, will be accepted for entry into the United States.
The US had recently announced that it will allow fully vaccinated foreign travelers to enter the country from November 8.
This is a welcome announcement for millions from across the world, including from China, Canada, Mexico, India, Brazil, much of Europe and elsewhere who were prevented from reuniting with families in the US.
Restrictions on non-U.S. citizens were first imposed on air travelers from China in January 2020 by then-President Donald Trump and then extended to more countries due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
With the new announcement, the US will essentially lift travel restrictions from countries like India, United Kingdom and China.
"The US' new travel policy that requires vaccination for foreign national travellers to the United States will begin on November 8," White House Assistant Press Secretary Kevin Munoz said.
"This announcement and date applies to both international air travel and land travel. This policy is guided by public health, stringent, and consistent,¡± he said in a tweet.
Foreign nationals who have received vaccines approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use, as well as those authorized by the WHO, will be accepted for entry into the United States.
This means that for Indians, only those who have been vaccinated with Covishield can travel to the US.
Indians who have taken either Bharat Biotech's Covaxin or Sputnik, will not be able to travel to the US next month.
This could soon change as Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is said to be cleared for emergency use by the WHO in the coming days.
The US has not announced any travel-specific, quarantine or Covid-19 testing guidelines yet.
