Gujarat Man, Trying To Enter US Illegally Falls Off Trump's Wall In Mexico Border, Dies

A Gujarat family's 'American dream' ended in disaster after a man who tried to enter the country illegally died at the border with Mexico.

According to reports, Brijkumar Yadav, his wife, and three-year-old son attempted to reach the US by climbing the border wall installed by former President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Husband dies, wife and son survive

Like many illegal immigrants, the trio was trying to scale the border wall in Tijuana, on the Mexican side, with Yadav holding his son.

However, he could not scale the concrete wall with metal plates and barbed wires and fell off it.

While Yadav was declared dead by paramedics, they found his 3-year-old son relatively unhurt, with minor injuries.

Yadav's wife also fell from the wall but landed 30 feet on the San Diego side. The wife, who fractured her arms and hipbone, was taken to a hospital in San Diego.

Part of 40-member illegal immigrant group

According to The Times of India, Yadav was a resident of Telephone Colony in Borisana village, barely 14km from Dingucha village, where nearly half its people have immigrated to the US.

Yadav and his family were among 40 people, mainly from north Gujarat, who were supposed to cross the border from Tijuana in Mexico to San Diego in the US on Wednesday.

"Brijkumar Yadav, his wife, and three-year-old son embarked on their illegal journey to the US a fortnight ago. They had approached an agent in Kalol. Yadav worked with a private firm in Kalol GIDC," a Police officer told The Times of India.

The price of American dream

The death of Yadav again highlights the extreme steps some in Gujarat are willing to take to reach the US illegally.

Many who view life in the US as a matter of prestige often pay lakhs of Rupees to human traffickers to promise to take them to the country.

But the traffickers often abandon the illegal immigrants at the Mexican or Canadian borders under inhospitable conditions.

In January this year, a family from Dingucha Jagdish Patel, his wife Vaishali and their two children froze to death on the Canadian side while trying to cross the US border.

Suspected human trafficking kingpin arrested

Last week, the Police arrested a human trafficker suspected of having facilitated the travel of the four-member family.

Bobby alias Bharat Patel is allegedly involved in facilitating the illegal entry of many people from the state into America and recovered 94 bogus passports from him.

"He is involved in illegal human trafficking and has cases against him in Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi. A case was registered against him in Ahmedabad city for preparing a bogus passport," the police said.
