Have You Tested Positive For COVID-19? Don't Panic, Instead, Do This

Have you tested positive for coronavirus infection? Don't worry. With so much panic and anxiety all around, you need to get the basics right.

Indiatimes spoke to Dr Raghav Gupta, Senior Resident at AIIMS, where he gave some tips on dos and don'ts if you have tested positive for COVID-19.

Looking at the current scenario, a lot of people have one prominent question in mind - What to do if someone tests positive for COVID-19?

Don't panic

"First things first, don't press the panic button and don't start running after oxygen, injection Remdesivir, tablet Fabiflu or getting your CT scan done," he says, adding that more than 90 per cent of the people diagnosed with COVID do not require any kind of hospital admission and will get cured at home itself.

Dr Gupta says that you only need to isolate yourself. "Wear the face mask and wash your hands frequently. Keep yourself hydrated, drink lots of water frequently," he says.

He adds that COVID patients at home must follow the two important things from a monitoring point of view.

"Frequently monitor your fever and your oxygen levels. This can be done with the help of the device called pulse oximeter which is easily available in the market."

He advises COVID patients to take paracetamol 650mg, three times a day, tablet vitamin C 500mg two times a day and tablet zinc 50mg once a day. However, he adds that the patient must consult their family physician or a local doctor nearby to see if any other medication needs to be added based on their condition.

What if you have comorbidities?

Dr Gupta says that if you are already suffering from comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma, do not stop those medications.

"In this case, if you have a continuous fever of 104 degree Fahrenheit, even after taking paracetamol, and your oxygen levels also dips to less than 94 continuously, consult your family physician or a doctor nearby and seek their advice," he suggests.

He adds that by the time you get any kind of hospital support or admission, you just need to sleep in the prone position, that is on your belly and chest. "This will significantly improve your oxygen levels and will also help you buy time until you find the hospital support.
