Hottest Day In A Decade In Delhi For 1st Week Of February Even As Winter Hasn't Fully Departed
The weather in Rajasthan too saw a change as temperatures increased up to 10ˇăC above normal with Barmer being the hottest at 37.6 ˇăC, a MeT department spokesperson told PTI on Saturday.
While the winter chill across the northern states of India has seemingly departed, Delhi on Monday witnessed its hottest February day in two years, and the warmest day for the first week of the month since at least 2013.
Delhi
With parts of the Capital recording a maximum temperature of over 29 degrees Celsius (ˇăC), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the mercury is set to rise in several northwestern and central states of India, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh in the coming days.
The weather station at Safdarjung, which is representational of DelhiˇŻs weather, logged temperature six degrees above the normal for this time of year ¨C while the station at Pitampura was the CapitalˇŻs hottest location with a high of 29.8ˇăC.
Maharashtra
Minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 2-3 degree Celsius over most parts of northwest and central India including Maharashtra over the next four-five days, according to the MeT deparment.
Gujarat
Bhuj city in GujaratˇŻs Kutch district recorded the highest temperature for the month of February in 71 years at 40.3ˇăC, according to the IMD.
Rajasthan
The weather in Rajasthan too saw a change as temperatures increased up to 10ˇăC above normal with Barmer being the hottest at 37.6 ˇăC, a MeT department spokesperson told PTI on Saturday.
According to the MeT department, the temperature in the state has risen due to the development of an anti-cyclonic system over the North Arabian Sea and adjoining Gujarat region.
Meanwhile, minimum temperature settles above normal in most parts of Punjab, Haryana.
Himachal
Shimla on Friday experienced FebruaryˇŻs warmest night with the minimum temperature at 14.4ˇăC, eleven degrees above normal, the Met department said. The minimum temperatures in major cities of the neighbouring states of Himachal were also lower than Shimla.
Goa
GoaˇŻs capital city Panaji on Thursday recorded the second highest temperature in ten years at 38.2 ˇăC, the IMD said. The city recorded a temperature of 38.7 ˇăC on March 6, 2013, the IMD said.
