Rains back in Bengaluru
On Thursday morning, Sarjapur Road and Marathahalli stretches in Bengaluru received heavy rains.
Bellandur, Kaikondralli and Soulu lakes are overflowing and water has started gushing towards residential localities. If rains don't stop, many more regions are likely to come under water. Waterlogging continued at EcoSpace Business Park.
Bengaluru had received 131.6mm rain overnight on September 5, the third highest rainfall in the city in the last 30 years.
According to the weather office, the city recorded 251.4 mm of rain in the last four days.
Residents start retuning to flooded apartments
The resumption of rains is bad news for residents of flood-hit localities and apartments, who had moved out to safer locations like either relatives' or friends' places or hotels and had started getting back to their homes to assess the damage and to carry out cleaning work.
"With the situation improving slightly, I have come to check my house, and to get it cleaned, but there seems to be a shortage of pumps to remove the remaining water, as they are in good demand now, also labourers to remove sludge. Will have to look out for them now. There is also a power cut...hope we don't receive more heavy rains," a resident at a locality near Yemalur said.
Apartments, homes left with no power, water supply
Many who came back on Wednesday returned to blacked-out apartment complexes as generators and power backup equipment in basements have been damaged in flood waters.'
According to officials restoring power supply to apartments whose basements are still waterlogged is not safe.
