India Facing Worst Water Crisis In History, Delhi, Bengaluru To Run Out Of Groundwater By 2020
India is facing water crisis and this is going to get worse in the coming years. 21 major cities are expected to run out of groundwater as soon as 2020. And this decline in water level will affect 100 million people. The water crisis is most acute in the Indian agriculture sector.
India is facing water crisis and this is going to get worse in the coming years years if right steps are not taken. Various global reports have said it again and again and now Niti Aayog has also pointed it out. The Niti Aayog's ¡®Composite Water Management Index¡¯ said that most states have scored less than 50 per cent when it comes to augmentation of ground water resources.
Talking about the growing water crises and depleting water table, the report said that 54 per cent of India¡¯s groundwater wells are declining and 21 major cities are expected to run out of groundwater as soon as 2020.

Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore which are expected to see zero groundwater in the couple of years to come.
And this decline in water level will affect 100 million people. The report stated that Meghalaya, Odisha, Sikkim, Bihar, Goa, Assam, Tripura, and Nagaland have declared that they have no critical or excessively drained groundwater units and thus, have not been scored for any of the indicators in the theme.
The report also said that the water crisis is most acute in the Indian agriculture sector, where ground accounts for 63 per cent of all irrigation water.
While talking about the states that have shown a substantial increase in the rise in fresh water, the report states that ¡°the performance of states in recharging groundwater has been poor, with only three states achieving a rise in water level for more than 50 per cent of the relevant groundwater units.¡±

The report also talked on the condition of drinking water and said that three-fourth of the households in the country don¡¯t have drinking water at their premise.
It added, the states have also performed average when it comes to providing drinking water to their people in rural areas. It said that out of 800 million people living in rural areas, 2 lakh are dying every year due to the lack of safe drinking water.
