Savitri Jindal, the chairperson of steel and power conglomerate OP Jindal Group, has filed her nomination papers for the Haryana Assembly Elections scheduled for October 5. The 74-year-old filed her nomination on Thursday, the last day to file nominations, as an Independent candidate from the Hisar constituency.

Savitri Jindal was elected as an MLA from Hisar for the first time in 2005, and she was re-elected in 2009 and was made a minister in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in 2013.
However, after her son Naveen Jindal joined the BJP, Savitri Jindal also quit the Congress in March 2024.
Naveen Jindal, who had declared assets worth ?1,230 crore in the 2024 general elections, was the richest BJP candidate in Haryana and is currently the MP for Kurukshetra.
Why is Savitri Jindal contesting as a rebel
The entry of the highly influential Savitri Jindal as a rebel candidate is expected to diminish the chances of the BJP candidate in Hisar.
According to Savitri Jindal, who was born in Tinsukia, Assam, it was the family's ties with Hisar that made her contest the elections again.
