Is It The End Of The Road For Ratan Tata¡¯s Dream Project Nano?
From the time Ratan Tata unveiled the much-awaited car at Auto Expo, Nano has been a synonym for trouble. Tata¡¯s jibe at Mamta Banerjee came back to bite him when the plant at to be shifted from Singur to Sanand.

The price tag gave it an image of a cheap car and with it came the stigma. Then there were the fire incidences that brought sales to a grinding halt. Tata kept at it, improving the car incrementally, but sales never matched the grand targets. Even Cyrus Mistry raised concerns.
Now, a report in The Hindu Business Line says that the company may soon phase out the car. The timing couldn¡¯t have been better. Soon the BS VI emission norms will come in and it will require a huge investment. Tata is already losing money on every Nano sold. Put the two together and you know there¡¯s no chance in hell of that happening.
The report says the company may continue to produce the car for export markets where it has done relatively well.
