Maharashtra Man Dies by Falling Into 500-Feet Gorge While Taking Selfie With Monkeys
Police recovered the body from the gorge with the help of the local Sahyadri rescue group.
A 39-year-old man in Maharashtra, while trying to take a selfie with monkeys on the Varandha Ghat road, fell into a 500-foot-deep gorge and died.
The incident took place on Tuesday evening. An official said that the body of Abdul Shaikh, the dead individual, was retrieved in the early hours of Wednesday.
He said Abdul Shaikh, heading towards Konkan in his car, halted near Waghjai temple on the Varandha ghat road.
"There were some monkeys around, and he was apparently trying to click a selfie with them in the background when he fell," inspector Vitthal Dabade of Bhor police station told PTI.
Police recovered the body from the gorge with the help of the local Sahyadri rescue group, he added.
Selfie death at a railway bridge
In October 2022, three youths were hit by a goods train while taking selfies on a railway bridge in the Latehar district in Jharkhand.
It resulted in the death of one person on the spot, while two others were left critically injured.
The incident occurred when the three Nasir Ansari, Firdous Ansari and Rizwan Ansari took selfies on the Gala river railway bridge.
While Nasir fell under the bridge and died on the spot, the two others were taken to Latehar's Sadar Hospital for treatment.
4 girls slip into Kitwad Falls
In November 2022, four girls slipped and died at Kitwad Falls near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border while trying to find a good selfie spot.
Around 40 girls and some of their mothers had planned a picnic at Kitwad Falls on the day of the incident.
The girls were playing in the water when five of them ventured further up to click photographs and selfies at the spot from where the water gushes down.
They were believed to have missed their footing, which made them plunge 15 feet to death. Upon hearing the screams of the other girls, some locals rushed to the spot and dived into the water instantly in a bid to save the girls.
But four of them drowned when they reached the five girls. They were rushed to the Institute of Medical Sciences, and the hospital declared four of them brought dead.
