Meet 16-Year-Old Kaamya Karthikeyan, Who Has Become The Youngest Indian To Conquer Mt Everest

Sixteen-year-old Kaamya Karthikeyan has become the youngest Indian mountaineer to conquer Mt. Everest from the Nepal side. She is also the second youngest girl globally to reach this formidable summit. Talk about girl power!

Kaamya Karthikeyan, a class XII student at Navy Children School in Mumbai, achieved a remarkable feat alongside her father, Commander S. Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy.

Their journey began in Kathmandu on April 6, marking the start of a challenging seven-week expedition to reach the summit.

On May 20th, the duo successfully summited Mount Everest, the world¡¯s highest peak, standing tall at 8,849 meters.

Mt Everest only the latest addition to Kaamya's accomplishments

Mount Everest is only the latest addition to Kaamya Karthikeyan's impressive list of accomplishments.

Her conquests include Africa¡¯s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 meters), Europe¡¯s towering Mount Elbrus (5,642 meters), and Australia¡¯s highest summit, Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 meters).

In 2017, Kaamya had made waves as the second-youngest girl globally to trek to the Everest Base Camp, marking the beginning of her illustrious mountaineering career. She subsequently earned the title of the youngest woman worldwide to successfully summit the 20,000-foot Mount Stoke.

In January 2021, Kaamya Karthikeyan had received the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, the highest national civilian honor for individuals under 18, in recognition of her exceptional mountaineering accomplishments.

The Indian Navy shared on X, "#IndianNavy congratulates Ms Kaamya Karthikeyan d/o Cdr S Karthikeyan on becoming the youngest #Indian & the second youngest girl in the world to summit Mt Everest from the Nepal side. Kaamya has exhibited immense courage & fortitude in summiting the highest peaks in six of the seven continents."

It further added, "#IndianNavy wishes young Kaamya the very best in her aspiration to summit the highest peaks of all seven continents, becoming the youngest girl to do so. #7SummitsChallenge," it added.
