A team of Tamil Nadu Police on Tuesday visited the Isha Yoga Foundation in Coimbatore as part of an inquiry into the NGO and its founder, spiritual guru Jaggi Vasudev, who goes by the name Sadhguru. The development came after the Madras High Court sought a report from the Tamil Nadu government on all criminal cases registered against the NGO.

'Why did he get his daughter married?'
On Monday, the Madras High Court bench of Justices SM Subramaniam and V Sivagnanam had asked why Jaggi Vasudev was encouraging young women to tonsure their heads and renounce worldly lives to live like hermits when he got his own daughter married.

The court made the comments while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by S Kamaraj, a retired professor from Coimbatore, claiming that his two daughters were "brainwashed" into permanently staying at the Isha Yoga Centre.
Kamaraj, who used to teach at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore, had filed a petition seeking the appearance of his daughters in person in the court.
What the women told court
On Monday, the two women, Geetha Kamaraj and Latha Kamaraj, aged 42 and 39, told the court that they were staying at the Isha Foundation out of their own will and were not detained.

Responding to the petition, Isha Foundation denied allegations that it advocated monkhood or asked people to get married, and added that adult individual human beings have the freedom and the wisdom to choose their path.
Controversy around death of Jaggi Vasudev's wife
Jaggi Vasudev, whose real name is Jagadish Vasudev, was born in Mysuru to a Telugu family and started his career as a poultry businessman. He is no stranger to controversies, including the suspicious death of his wife, Vijayakumari.

Her father had filed a police complaint alleging foul play in the death of Vijayakumari, who died in 1997. However, he was never found guilty in the case, and Isha Foundation's website mentions that Vijayakumari attained Mahasamadhi in the presence of hundreds of people.
