With close to 5 lakh followers on YouTube and over 1 lakh on Instagram, 24-year-old Pulkit Daga has made it as a mini-influencer.
On December 21, he also became one of the top scorers in the country in CAT 2023, with a score in the 99.14 percentile. Armed with this score, Daga hopes to secure admission into either IIM Ahmedabad or Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi.
Daga surely has gotten a taste of the best of both worlds!
Who is Pulkit Daga, the food vlogger?
Pulkit Daga, who goes by 'worthytale' on Instagram, is known for his food vlogging. It was his love for food that ultimately evolved into content creation as he began posting frequently on Instagram.
"I used to go out a lot and used to take a lot of pictures for Snapchat stories. Then I got really into it and started posting them, particularly on Instagram. A lot of people liked it and it grew very well. On Instagram, initially, I used to cover cafes and restaurants, but during the lockdown, I started doing recipes with my mother because I couldnĄ¯t go out. We made a dessert recipe for caramel custard pudding. It got almost 3 lakh views, which was huge at the time because I had only about 10,000 followers. That was the breakthrough video for me," he said, as quoted by Careers360.
He launched his YouTube channel in May 2020 and amassed an audience of a lakh within a year.
From content to CAT: A credible journey indeed
A Class 12 commerce student who went on to earn a BachelorĄ¯s degree in management studies (BMS) from Delhi University, Pulkit had always planned to do an MBA.
But his journey toward attaining an MBA degree was not as smooth. He first attempted the CAT exam in 2019 but could not get an institution of his choice. Following this, he opted for a job in the financial services industry in November 2020, while still continuing his content creation.
Juggling a job became all the more difficult when work from home ended and he was called to office. In May 2023, he quit his job and pursued content-creation full time, while also devoting time to his studies.
How did he manage studies with content creation?
'It was self preparation. I would typically wake up at 9 am, hit the gym, freshen up and get to study by 10 am. Around 11, I would shoot a recipe [video]; that takes around two hours. Then, I rested a bit, studying again from 4 pm to 7 pm. After dinner, I used to study till midnight and edit the video before going to bed," Daga was quoted as saying by Careers360.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow announced the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023 result on December 21 at iimcat.ac.in. Around 3.28 lakh candidates registered for the CAT 2023, out of which about 2.88 lakh candidates had appeared for the examination.
