This Is How Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Is Clawing Back Into The Game In Assam

Assam was supposed to be the BJP's best bet in the 2021 state elections, a state that would be relatively easy compared to the big battle for Bengal and an imminent drubbing along with its allies in Tamil Nadu. But then something happened that the BJP wasn't expecting - the Congress fought back, clawing its way back in the state.

With this agenda in mind, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tried to reach out to the youth and women in poll-bound Assam on the first day of her two-day trip to mobilise support for the Congress-led seven-party alliance. The AICC general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh could be seen meeting women, labourers and farmers across the state, and taking the message of the party far and wide to oust the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Priyanka runs to make it in time

On Tuesday, Priyanka Gandhi was about to reach a bit late at the venue of her rally in Assam's Tezpur. However, she managed to make it on time - and the Congress campaign team released a video to show her arrival at the crowded venue. In a dark maroon saree, Gandhi is seen sprinting down a dusty path and surrounded by her bodyguards, who try to catch up with her as they all run towards the stage.

People on both sides of the fenced pathway clapped for her as she continued the dash to the raised pavilion. She ended the sprint with folded hands, and give a namaste gesture as the crowd waved back at her. While many hailed her spirit to be able to make it in time, many criticised her for being late to the rally.

Plucks tea leaves at Sadhuru garden

Earlier that day, Gandhi interacted with tea garden workers at Sadhuru tea garden in Assam¡¯s Biswanath and was even seen plucking tea leaves with women workers.

Gandhi also sat down with ¡°brothers and sisters¡± of the Sadhuru tea garden ¡°to understand their worries and apprehensions, their hopes and aspirations¡±.

¡°The life of tea garden workers is full of truth and simplicity and their labour is invaluable for the country. Today, sitting with them I understood their work, the well-being of the families and the difficulties they face. I will not forget the love I got from them,¡± she tweeted.

Enjoys meal, cradles baby at a worker's home

Later that day, she was seen having a meal at one of the tea garden worker's house and cradling their baby in her arms.

On Day 1 of her campaign trail, Priyanka addressed two meetings, one for the youth in Lakhimpur, and another for women self-help groups and garden workers in Gohpur, groups which are being assiduously wooed by the ruling BJP-led dispensation.

Draped in a purple saree, Priyanka, in her short and crisp speech, tried to convey to her target audience what was wrong under the present regime and that they need to judiciously use their vote, an ¡°important weapon¡± in their hands, if they want to ¡°secure¡± their future and that of the state, both of which have been passing through tough times under the BJP-led regime.

Address youth, women in strong speech

¡°When you vote, think carefully and understand whether the political party you are choosing and the leaders who are going to represent you are capable of making policies that will strengthen the future of your children,¡± she said. The Congress leader further said that the BJP government has done nothing for women in the past 5 years of their rule but now they are distributing scooter to girls before the election.

The Congress party as a whole has been on its toes to woo the people of Assam. Earlier, they launched a campaign titled ¡®Assam Bachao¡¯, inviting people of Assam to highlight the problems they are facing through a video. The campaign also had a contest with the people putting forward the best suggestions and highlighting problems in the most effective manner being gifted iPhones.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who heads the party's manifesto committee, met the winners of the contest. The Assam Bachao anthem of the Congress also became popular on social media and crossed 1 million views on YouTube.

Polling in Assam will be held in three phases ¡ª March 27, April 1 and 6. Counting will take place on May 2. The state has 126 seats in the legislative assembly.
