More recoveries than fresh COVID-19 cases since August 1 in Pune have raised hopes of the outbreak peaking, which shall be a big respite for citizens and the city's healthcare infrastructure, as per a TOI report.
According to the district administration's data, as many as 24,561 people tested positive between August 1 to 10 but 28,841 patients were discharged post recovery in the same time frame.
This means the recoveries are 15% more than the number of new cases.
¡°It is a good indication that more people are getting discharged as compared to new admissions. However, it is a little too early to say if Pune has reached the peak in cases,¡± Pune divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao told TOI.
This trend of higher recoveries than new cases has also eased the burden on the healthcare infrastructure and demand for ventilators.
According to the district administration¡¯s dashboard, 47 ICU beds with ventilators were available on Tuesday while 153 ICU beds without ventilators were vacant.
As many as 967 vacant isolation beds with oxygen facility were also available, besides 5,353 without oxygen isolation beds.
¡°Getting a ventilator-supported bed had become a task in the last couple of months. Six positive patients lost their lives as they were unable to find ICU beds with ventilator support. Only a couple of ventilator-supported beds were free in June and early July,¡± a district official said.
