Driver Intentionally Runs Over Young Man In Noida Road Rage, His Sister Appeals For Help On Internet

The Noida Police have arrested a 21-year-old college student and three others for allegedly running over a man on the Mahamaya flyover in a suspected case of road rage on Sunday morning. Police said that the victim is severely injured and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

A video of the incident shows the four accused arguing with a group of men on the road. After some time, they get inside their car, hit the other car, and then hit one of the men from the other group. The video shows him being flung into the air and being mowed down by the accused.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ankita Sharma said the victim, Diwakar Motwani, suffered severe injuries and has been hospitalised.
"There was an argument between both the sides after cars apparently brushed against each other. The argument escalated into a fistfight. The other side then hit the person (Motwani) with their car at a very fast speed," Sharma said.
Accused are all students aged 21-23
Police also said the accused driver is a college student and lives with his family in Noida. The other accused, aged between 21 and 23, are also students.
The person driving the car has been identified as Navin Awana. He and his three other friends ¨C Surya Bhatia, Abhinav Sehgal, and Nitish Gupta -- have been arrested, the officer said.
"A video of the incident first surfaced on social media, taking note of which we have added Section 307 (murder attempt) of the IPC in the case," Sharma said. The video was uploaded by Motwani's sister and she appealed for justice on the internet. She even began a campaign #JusticeForDeva on the internet.
Many on Instagram supported her appeal and helped her amplify the incident.
