Suchana Seth Allegedly Gave Heavy Dose Of Cough Syrup To 4-Year-Old Son Before Smothering Him

The Goa Police is continuing their probe into the shocking murder of Chinmay Seth Raman, a four-year-old boy who his mother allegedly killed.

According to the Police, the accused, Suchana Seth, the CEO of Bengaluru-based The Mindful AI Lab, is not cooperating with the probe and is changing her statements.

What Suchana Seth said

The 39-year-old, who was arrested on Monday while fleeing Goa in a car with the body of her son stuffed inside a suitcase, has reportedly denied murdering him.

Seth had claimed that she attempted to render her son unconscious to stop him from talking to his father over video call by pressing the pillow on his face, and the child was suffocated to death.

However, the investigators are not entirely buying her claims. They believe that the murder was pre-planned.

Two cough syrup bottles recovered

Police had recovered two empty bottles (one big and another small) of cough syrup from the service apartment at Candolim in Goa, where she had checked in with her son on Saturday.

The service apartment's staff told the cops the woman had asked them to buy a small bottle of cough syrup for herself.

No signs of struggle; boy was smothered.

"The post-mortem conducted on the body has indicated the possibility that the child might have been smothered to death and there were no signs of struggle. We are examining the possibility if the woman gave a heavy dose of cough syrup to the child before putting him to death," the police said, adding the bigger bottle might have been carried by her.

"He was strangled to death or what we call smothering. Either a cloth or a pillow was used. The child died due to strangulation. It doesn't look like the child was strangulated using hands. It looks like a pillow or some other material was used," Hiriyur Taluk Hospital's administrative officer, Dr Kumar Naik, said.

How the murder came to light

The murder came to light on Monday after the apartment's housekeeping staff spotted blood stains on a towel while cleaning the room.

This, later the police revealed, was the blood of the accused herself and not her son's.

Seth allegedly tried to end her life by slashing her wrist after killing her son but later changed her mind and fled Goa with his body stuffed inside a bag.

Why Suchana Seth killed her son

Seth has told interrogators that she had a troubled marriage and had filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Venkatrama.

Police believe that Seth committed the shocking murder to prevent her son from meeting his father, who had been granted visitation rights to him by the court.

Meanwhile, the family, including the boy's father Venkatraman, who was in Indonesia when Chinmay was killed, performed his last rites at Harishchandra Ghat at Rajaji Nagar in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
