UGC Panel Recommends Removal Of 'M' And 'H' From AMU And BHU Respectively
The suggestion is given in audit of AMU by one of the five committees set up by University Grant Commission (UGC) on April 25 at the best of the HRD ministry to probe the complaints of irregularities against 10 central universities.
A government audit of central universities has suggested to remove the words ¡®Muslim¡¯ and ¡®Hindu¡¯ from Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University respectively in order to reflect the secular character.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the suggestion is given in audit of AMU by one of the five committees set up by University Grant Commission (UGC) on April 25 at the best of the HRD ministry to probe the complaints of irregularities against 10 central universities.
AMU audit, however, did not cover BHU but referred to the institution¡¯s name in its report. Both the Universities are central universities located in the most volatile state of Uttar Pradesh.
The other universities that were audited by the panel were Pondicherry University, Allahabad University, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand, Central University of Jharkhand, Central University of Rajasthan, Central University of Jammu, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya in Wardha, University of Tripura and Hari Singh Gour University in Madhya Pradesh.
