The two police personnel, Kiran Thackeray and Amol Dahiphale, posted at the Marine Drive Police Station, jumped into the Arabian Sea in South Mumbai during high tide on Thursday and saved a 59-year-old woman from drowning.

Incident during high tide
The incident occurred at around 2:45 pm near Sundar Mahal junction on the Marine Drive seafront, where an onlooker informed the police that a woman, who was sitting on the promenade, had slipped into the sea and was drowning.

Upon receiving the information, the two cops rushed to the spot, jumped into the sea, and pulled out the woman, who was struggling in the water. The cops saved the woman, identified as Swati Kanani, a resident of Matunga, by risking their own lives as it was the time of high tide when the sea was generally rough.
According to the police, the woman was admitted to a hospital for treatment and is out of danger.

Video goes viral
Mumbai Police on Friday shared the video of the rescue on social media, with a caption reading: "Turned the tide! Responding quickly to a drowning incident near Sundar Mahal Junction, Marine Drive, on-duty officials PC Kiran Thackeray & PC Amol Dahiphale, despite high tide, jumped into the sea & rescued the woman. The lady was then taken to the hospital by Marine Drive 1 Mobile van for further treatment, where the doctors have confirmed her condition is stable and her relatives have been notified," the post said.

Rains in Mumbai
Mumbai has been receiving heavy rains since the onset of the monsoon in the city on June 9. On Friday, the Santacruz observatory of the India Meteorological Department recorded 78.6 millimeters of rainfall, while the figure was 65.9 mm at the Colaba observatory in the southern part of the metropolis. In a 10-hour period that ended at 6 pm, the island city recorded an average of 35.72 mm, while eastern Mumbai witnessed 33.30 mm and the western part of the city got 29.92 mm.
