We've all indulged in a swift sandwich during work commutes or at airports 每 it's quick, convenient, and generally considered hygienic.
However, have you ever pondered over the process of crafting those pre-packaged sandwiches?
A video showcasing exactly that is gaining popularity, and the ensuing comments are quite surprising, to say the least.
Inside the sandwich factory: From ingredients to packaging
The video outlines the procedure involved in creating pre-packaged sandwiches.
Initially, fresh bread is loaded into an automated machine that separates the slices into loaves. Following this, an internal roller applies melted butter, and an automated depositor dispenses mayonnaise.
Workers then add more specific ingredients, such as cold cuts or grated cheese, and later ham.
Subsequently, the sandwiches are closed and arranged in stacks of two.
The next step involves transporting the sandwiches to a mechanized cutter, equipped with an oscillating blade that slices through the sandwich as it passes through.
Lastly, the sandwiches get packaged together.
Soul-crushing labour
Interestingly, social media users shifted their focus from the manufacturing process to the human aspect, expressing dissatisfaction.
One user commented, "Assembly line work is so depressing," while another added, "And no money either!"
An optimistic comment with a touch of sarcasm mentioned the potential for Korean robots to replace the workers.
Another user reflected on the labor, stating, "This is the kind of soul-crushing labor that you*re certainly thinking about and dreading going back to, even on your days off. Gimme corporate deadlines over standing for 9 hours spreading cheese on a sandwich."
Sharing a personal experience, one user mentioned their mother's 30-year tenure on an assembly line, expressing regret about not pursuing a different career.
While these users empathized with the workers, others expressed sadness for the sandwiches themselves, noticing discrepancies in the origins of the bread slices!
One said, "Everyone is concerned about the gloveless workers and I*m just sitting here upset that the 2 halves you get, aren*t both from the same sandwich."
Another added, saying, "Not only that but the top and bottom pieces of bread come from completely different loaves! Each of the 4 pieces of bread that you receive are not related to each other."
Yet another agreed, "Well now I*m sad."
