With Over 80,000 Cases, Maharashtra Will Soon Overtake China's Total COVID-19 Figures

As Maharashtra continues to struggle to subdue the continuing threat of coronavirus, the state is staring at major crisis as healthcare system remains overwhelmed.
The worst-hit state in India, Maharashtra will soon surpass the COVID-19 figures of China. The state saw a slight dip in daily fresh cases from the previous day. As many as 2,436 people diagnosed positive with coronavirus infection on Friday.

The total number of cases now stand at 80,229 at the time of writing this. The death toll in Maharashtra rose to 2,849. Mumbai alone reported 54 deaths on Friday, highest single-day toll so far. Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases and fatalities in India.
Among the cities in the state, Mumbai, Thane, and Pune have seen the biggest jump in confirmed cases in the last two days.
Maharashtra has 42,224 patients still under treatment, the most in the country, followed by Delhi with 15,311 and Tamil Nadu with 12,700 active cases.
Despite a much slower case doubling rate than earlier in the outbreak, new infections and deaths are now rising faster in India than in most other badly-hit countries.
The number of coronavirus infections is likely to keep increasing in the coming days, as India¡¯s testing numbers continue to grow. According to the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), over 45.24 lakh samples have been tested so far, including 1.38 lakh in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the total coronavirus case count in India stands at 236,657.
