Brazilian swimmer sneaks out of Olympic Village to meet boyfriend, sent home immediately
The 22-year-old was busted after she posted photos of her night out with her boyfriend on social media.
Ana Carolina Vieira, a Brazilian swimmer, had an unceremonious exit from the Olympic Village and was sent home after she was found to be in breach of protocol at the Paris Olympics. Vieira, who was part of Brazil's women's 4x100m freestyle relay team, was sent home after she sneaked out from the Olympic Village for a night on the town with her boyfriend and fellow swimmer Gabriel Santos.
Night out with boyfriend before competition
According to reports, the duo sneaked out from the Olympic Village the night before their competition, defying a team order. Unsurprisingly, both the women's team and the men's team in the 4x100m freestyle relay failed to make the finals in Paris. The 22-year-old was busted after she posted photos of her night out with her boyfriend on social media.

Vieira sent home, Santos warned
Taking note of their defiance, the Brazilian Olympic Committee has punished the two athletes. While Santos, who issued an apology, received a warning for his actions, Vieira was sent home with immediate effect. According to reports, other than breaking the rules, Vieira also ran into trouble with the team management for challenging Brazil's relay team formation.
What Olympic Committee said
"The Brazilian Confederation of Aquatic Sports (CBDA), the COB decided to punish the two athletes for having left the Olympic Village without authorization last Friday," a statement from the body read. "In addition to this fact, the athlete Ana Carolina, in a disrespectful and aggressive manner, contested the technical decision taken by the Brazilian Swimming Team committee. Thus, athlete Gabriel Santos was punished with a warning and athlete Ana Carolina Vieira was punished with removal from the delegation. She will return to Brazil immediately."

What Vieira said
However, Vieira took to Instagram on Sunday to post an update about the situation and explain her side of the story. Vieira claimed that she had to leave the Olympic Village without her belongings. She also claimed that she had filed a suit of harassment within the team. ¡°I have already filed a complaint of harassment, and nothing has been resolved, harassment within the team,¡± Vieira said.
