Panipuri Vendor To IPL Star! Fans Laud Yashasvi Jaiswal Over His Blistering Knock Of 124
Jaiswal, known and adored for his humble beginnings, played a blistering knock of 124 from 62 deliveries against Mumbai Indians in yesterday's IPL match.
Everybody loves a good underdog story as it signifies the joint aspirations of millions hustling to beat extreme challenges to become a bonafide champion. And the story of cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal fits the bill.
Jaiswal, known and adored for his humble beginnings, played a blistering knock of 124 from 62 deliveries against Mumbai Indians in yesterday's IPL match.
Lost but won - the rare magic
Though his team Rajasthan Royals, fell short of winning the match owing to a blockbuster finish from rival team's Tim David, the fearless innings by Jaiswal didn't go unnoticed by fans.
The fact that the next best score from his side came from opening partner Jos Buttler, who scored 18 off 19 balls, is a testament to Jaiswal's unflinching determination and a signifier of the giant status that awaits him.
Considered one of the most bright talents across formats in Indian cricket, Jaiswal has scored 1845 runs in just 15 matches at an incredible average of 80.21 and strike rate of 67.48 since his first-class debut.
Moreover, he already has nine first-class centuries in his kitty, along with two half centuries. Apart from that, he is the youngest player to score a double century in 50-over cricket and was the leading run scorer in the 2020 U-19 World Cup, where India lost to Bangladesh in the final.
He had amassed 400 runs in that tournament in six matches with one century and four half-centuries.
Panipuri vendor to star cricketer
But what is more inspiring is his struggle off the field that the 21-year-old maverick batsman has persevered to reach here.
Briefly before his glorious U19 stint, Jaiswal was staying in a tent with the groundskeepers of the Azad Maiden in Dadar, Mumbai.
Jaiswal had moved to Mumbai from his hometown of Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh to receive cricket coaching at the Maidan and had to live in the tent after being ousted from a shop where he was working in the Kalbadevi neighbourhood.
He would also sell pani puri to make ends meet.
"The journey I've had, that will stay with me for life," Jaiswal had said last year ahead of the Ranji Trophy semi-finals between Mumbai and UP.
Jaiswal's story goes viral
Yesterday's knock carried Jaiswal to the top of the Orange Cap standings, leapfrogging the likes of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and David Warner.
Jaiswal now has 428 runs in nine innings this season at a strike rate of 159.70 and an average of 47.56. Apart from the century on Sunday, he also scored three half-centuries.
With feats like these, there is no doubt why fans are ecstatic about Jaiswal's rise to fame and why they can't stop sharing his inspiring story on Twitter.
Here's how people poured their love for the upcoming star on the micro-blogging site:

Jaiswal's early days of cricketing
Jaiswal's talent was noticed by Santacruz-based coach Jwala Singh, who took him under his tutelage and gave him a place to stay.
In no time, Jaiswal started turning heads with his knocks. He came to the spotlight in 2015 when he scored 319 not out and took 13/99 in a Giles Shield match, an all-around school cricket record recognised by the Limca Book of Records.
