Ex-Amazon VP claims CEO seduced his wife in retaliation, leading to divorce
In a detailed account shared through his Level Up newsletter, Evans elaborated on his claims. He stated, "The CEO of a startup I worked for seduced my wife in direct retaliation for my pushback at work, which directly led to my divorce."
A former Vice President at Amazon has come forward with a startling allegation, claiming that the CEO of a startup where he previously worked seduced his wife in retaliation, ultimately causing the breakdown of his marriage. Ethan Evans, based in Seattle, shared this deeply personal story in a recent LinkedIn post, where he also provided advice on navigating "unethical leaders" and the challenges of "political snake pits."
In his post, Evans wrote, ¡°A CEO that I worked for seduced my wife in direct retaliation for my pushback on him at work. He won. I got divorced and left the company,¡± adding, ¡°When I say I truly understand how some executive teams can be political snake pits, I trust you will believe me. Learn from my pain.¡±
Evans has a distinguished career spanning over 15 years at Amazon. He began his journey with the e-commerce giant as a senior manager, steadily rising through the ranks until he was named Vice President of Prime Gaming in 2019. Evans retired from Amazon in September 2020 and has since focused on his own career growth newsletter.
CEO seduced my wife, ex-Amazon VP claims
In a detailed account shared through his Level Up newsletter, Evans elaborated on his claims. He stated, "The CEO of a startup I worked for seduced my wife in direct retaliation for my pushback at work, which directly led to my divorce." Evans emphasized that his experiences with manipulative and unethical leaders were not just theoretical, saying, ¡°When people ask how I managed to navigate the snake den of political leaders to become a Vice President at Amazon, I assure them I have real experience.¡±
Evans further highlighted this incident as the "worst example" of unethical leadership he had encountered in his long career. He also acknowledged that there were already issues in his marriage, commenting on LinkedIn, ¡°What this CEO did wouldn¡¯t have worked if my then-wife hadn¡¯t been open to it. This reflects that our marriage already had problems.
He continued, ¡°While she was not looking for a liaison at the start, in the end, she made her own independent adult choices.¡±
In his LinkedIn post, Evans explained his decision to share this deeply personal story, saying, ¡°My mission is to help others avoid some of my mistakes.¡±
Woman claiming to be ex-wife responds with her side of the story
An X (formerly Twitter) account under the name Circe, which claims to belong to Evans' former wife, offered a contrasting version of the events. She wrote, "Ex-wife here!? To clear the record, his CEO did not 'seduce' me. I seduced him."

Every moment I had alone with Ethan, all he would talk about was his CEO. In the car. At dinner. While making love.
Eventually, I knew I had to meet this man for myself.

According to her, Ethan's constant discussion of his CEO, whether in the car, at dinner, or even during intimate moments, piqued her interest. This curiosity eventually led her to meet the CEO, where she decided to switch partners. "Now, while Ethan continues to talk about his former boss publicly, I enjoy having him all to myself. I generally consider this a win for everybody, I just wish he¡¯d stop bringing me into it as well. ??¡â?" she added.
Social media speculations and the real story
Despite Evans not naming the CEO in question, some internet sleuths speculated that he might have been referring to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, given Evans' long tenure at the company. However, this speculation doesn't align with the details Evans provided.
For one, Evans clearly stated that the CEO in question was leading a startup, a description that does not fit Amazon. He also mentioned that he left that company and later became a Vice President at Amazon, a position he held until his retirement.
He commented the time period it happened (19 years ago) he worked for a company called Lightspace Corp (a now defunct company) whos Ceo was Ken Lang pic.twitter.com/Ird6QJMhGm

Most tellingly, Evans noted that the seduction and divorce occurred 19 years ago. According to his LinkedIn profile, during that time, Evans was working as the Vice President of Engineering at a company called Lightningcast, not Amazon.
