'I'm sorry my love, we could toss your ring into the river too': Olympian's hilarious apology after losing wedding ring in Seine
At the stunning opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi lost his wedding ring during the boat parade, resulting in a hilarious apology on social media.
The Paris Olympics kicked off in spectacular style on July 26, with a dazzling opening ceremony featuring performances by Celine Dion and Lady Gaga.
As the world buzzes about Dion's triumphant return following her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome and the impressive spectacle of teams rowing through the Seine, there's one standout story that's stealing the spotlight¡ªand it's absolutely hilarious.
At the grand opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Parade of Nations took a charming twist as teams floated down the Seine River on 85 boats, carrying 6,800 athletes towards the glittering Eiffel Tower.
Among the festive excitement, one Olympian had a small mishap.
World champion high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi from Italy, proudly serving as his country's male flag bearer, was sailing along with joy.
But amid the celebration, disaster struck when his wedding ring slipped off his finger while he was waving the Italian flag during the rainy boat parade.
In his own words, Tamberi described the moment with a mix of humor and despair: "I'm sorry my love, I'm so sorry. Too much water, too many kg lost in the past few months or maybe the uncontrollable enthusiasm of what we were doing. Probably all three things, just the fact that I heard it parade, I saw it fly.... I followed her with a glance until I saw her bouncing inside the boat. A Glimmer of Hope ... But unfortunately the bounce was in the wrong direction and floating more than a thousand times in the air I saw her dive into the water like that was the only place she wanted to be."
Trying to find a silver lining, he added, "But if it was meant to happen, if I'm really going to lose this faith, I couldn't imagine a better place. It will stay forever in the riverbed of the city of love, flown away while I tried to carry the Italian tricolor as high as possible during the opening ceremony of the most important sporting event in the world."
Then he came up with a unique solution¡ªone we're not sure his wife would be too enthusiastic about! He suggested, "Maybe there's a beautiful side to this mishap. If you want, we could toss your ring into the river too, so they'd be together forever. It'd give us another excuse to renew our vows and get married again. I love you, my love."
