US President-elect Donald Trump wasted little time reiterating his idea of integrating Canada with the US as its 51st state, following the resignation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. According to Trump, many Canadians love being a part of the US, and if the two countries merge, it will make a great nation.

Trump's push to integrate Canada
Following his presidential election win in November, Trump has, on at least two previous occasions, mentioned that Canada should be the 51st state of the US. Recently he had referred to Trudeau as ¡°Governor of the Great State of Canada¡±.
How Trump expedited Trudeau government's collapse
Trump's push for a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian imports, once he assumes office, is one of the many reasons that led to the resignation of Trudeau. Last month, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland had quit the Trudeau government over a disagreement on how to deal with the incoming Trump administration.

Trudeau's resignation
Trudeau has seen his popularity take a massive drop in recent times due to Canada's cost of living crisis, immigration, and other issues. It was widely expected that Trudeau would call for early elections and not wait until October this year, when his term in office comes to an end. Trudeau announced he would step down once the Liberal Party selects a new leader, leaving him as a caretaker prime minister until then.
