While the unfounded claim was immediately fact-checked by the presidential debate moderators, Trump refused to accept it and doubled down on his claim.

The internet, being what it is, decided to get back at Trump in the best way possible.
South African band The Kiffness turned Trump's claim ¡°In Springfield, they¡¯re eating the dogs. The people that came in. They¡¯re eating the cats. They¡¯re eating ¨C they¡¯re eating the pets of the people that live there," into a song, which has since gone viral.
The Kiffness's 'Eating the Cats ft. Donald Trump' has taken the internet by storm, with even American film director Morgan J. Freeman reposting it.
The viral video also inspired others to come up with their own versions of 'They¡¯re eating the cats' songs.

What is behind 'they are eating cats' claim
According to US media, the unfounded claims that have spread like wildfire among MAGA supporters seem to have originated with the arrest of a woman for killing a cat in August. But till now there are no confirmed reports of anyone eating cats, and the said incident happened in Canton, which is about 170 miles northeast of Springfield. Also, the arrested woman was an Ohio native and not a Haitian immigrant.
This has, however, not stopped MAGA from exploiting it with memes and AI-generated images projecting Trump as the protector of American cats.
