Witnessing Earth from space offers a mesmerising perspective, capturing the planet's diverse landscapes and natural phenomena. Recently, footage recorded by the Johnson Space Center of NASA has provided a glimpse of the Sahara Desert's appearance from space, revealing a scene that initially resembles the surface of Mars or Mercury.
Video of Sahara now viral
In the viral video, patches of white color stand out against the light brown terrain, giving the impression of an alien landscape. The Sahara Desert, known for its vast expanse of sand and sporadic cloud cover, appears strikingly different when viewed from above.
Instead of the familiar blue and green hues associated with Earth, the desert terrain looks like a palette of brown sand in contrasted scattered white clouds overhead. The footage captures sandstorms and clouds enveloping the desert, creating an otherworldly scene that has intrigued thousands of viewers.

Re-entry of an aging satellite over the Sahara in 2023
In a separate event in October last year, NASA reported the re-entry of an aging satellite over the Sahara Desert, causing speculation and concern among observers. Fortunately, no damage or injuries were reported as the satellite safely reentered Earth's atmosphere during the early hours of the morning in Sudan.
At the same time in 2023, NASA had also released a chilling photograph of a skull-like feature located within a volcanic caldera in Chad. Captured by an astronaut aboard the International Space Station, the image depicted the eerie formation known as Trou au Natron, a volcanic crater left behind by ancient geological activity.
This uncanny sight, resembling a skull gazing upward from the heart of the desert, offered a glimpse into the intriguing geological features hidden within Earth's most remote landscapes.
