Here Is Why Elon Musk's Tesla Is Recalling All Cybertrucks It Has Delivered So Far
Telas has been ordered to recall nearly 4,000 of its Cybertrucks due to an accelerator pedal that can stick in place when pressed down. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect can result in the pedal pad dislodging and becoming trapped in the vehicle¡¯s interior trim when ¡°high force is applied.¡±
Ever since Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla Motors introduced the Cybertruck back in 2019, the futuristic vehicle made more headlines for the wrong reasons than the right ones. To start with the Tesla Cybertruck ran into production issues that resulted in its delivery being delayed by two years from the originally announced 2021 to November 2023.
Latest blow to Cybertruck
The price also went up to $60,990, which is over 50% more expensive than what CEO Elon Musk had claimed in 2019.
But even after it started delivering Tesla's troubles with the Cybertruck continued and the latest could be the most devastating so far.
Telas has been ordered to recall nearly 4,000 of its Cybertrucks due to an accelerator pedal that can stick in place when pressed down.
Defect with pedal pad
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect can result in the pedal pad dislodging and becoming trapped in the vehicle¡¯s interior trim when ¡°high force is applied.¡±
The fault was caused by an ¡°unapproved change¡± that introduced ¡°lubricant (soap)¡± during the assembly of the accelerator pedals, which reduced the retention of the pad, the recall notice states. The truck¡¯s brakes will still function if the accelerator pedal becomes trapped, though this obviously isn¡¯t an ideal workaround.
Almost all Cybertrucks delivered to be recalled
While Tesla has not publicly revealed how many Cybertrucks it has delivered so far, the order to recall 3,878 vehicles manufactured from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024, suggests that every Cybertruck that is currently plying on the roads could be recalled.
Free repair or replacement
And unlike many past Tesla recalls, this one cannot be fixed with a simple over-the-air software update. Tesla will have to have owners respond to letters and bring the Cybertrucks into its service centers for a repair at no charge.
Tesla said as on Monday, that it was not aware of any collisions, injuries or deaths related to the issue and added that it will replace or repair the accelerator pedal assembly for free.
